    ALTERNATE REALITIES

    Meaning Clusters

    George thought

    he was unpopular

    at school.

    He asked his uncle

    the mad scientist

    if there was any way

    he could be sent into

    an alternate reality

    where he was popular.

    He placed a device

    over George’s head.

    Then he told George

    to go home.

    The next day

    George felt different.

    People talked to him

    and laughed

    at his jokes.

    George thanked

    his uncle

    the following week.

    “What are you

    talking about?”

    his uncle said.

    “That was just

    the packaging

    that came with

    my new Tesla coil.”

    “I’m far too busy

    creating an army

    of highly intelligent

    sea otters that will

    conquer the world.”

    So George

    had no choice

    but to be unpopular

    once again.

    BALABAR GRUMM

    Meaning Clusters

    “I must free

    my people.”

    thought Balabar

    running through

    the dark jungle.

    His plasma knife

    softened the strands

    of Tengunium wire.

    The fence stretched

    without breaking

    the flow of current

    triggering an alarm.

    He watched

    for signs

    of other defenses.

    laser grid

    Balabar smiled.

    Turning on

    the phase distorter

    he carefully walked

    toward the grove

    of Cacao trees.

    Balabar found

    two small trees

    which he unearthed

    and carefully placed

    in a stasis sphere.

    He left

    as stealthily

    as he arrived

    back to his dropship.

    His homeworld

    of Yalaka

    would finally be free

    of Earth’s domination

    which spanned

    thousands of galaxies.

    They would make

    their own Chocolate

    from now on.
