    FOXES

    Meaning Clusters

    This morning as

    I left the school

    I saw a red fox.

    The fox was

    very nervous.

    She ran

    back and forth.

    I watched
    the fox.

    I started to leave

    and noticed
    the fox at the end
    of the fence.

    How could she
    have run that fast?

    I looked back
    and saw that there
    were two foxes.

    If there are two foxes

    are there baby foxes?

    ----------------------------------

    This morning
    as I left the den

    I saw a human.

    He was watching me.

    He looked threatening.

    I ran back and forth

    to distract him.

    I hope no big dogs

    live in the house.

    They might try

    to kill us.

    Although a small dog

    might make a good meal

    for my kits.

    GLOBAL WARMING

    Meaning Clusters

    John sat

    in the snow
    for hours.

    He concentrated
    on melting the snow
    with sheer willpower.

    After a few months
    John could melt ice
    just by thinking
    about it.

    John assumed
    his ability to break
    physical laws meant
    the entire world
    was an illusion.

    So he decided
    to really test
    his mental powers.

    After 10 years
    of determination

    Antarctica melted.

    John decided
    he needed
    an even bigger target.

    So he tried

    to melt Jupiter’s
    ice-covered moon
    of Ganymede.

    Fortunately for

    the ice worms
    that lived there

    he failed.

    An angry mob
    of illusionary penguins
    shoved John
    in a meat locker.

    He spent the rest

    of his illusionary life
    keeping himself warm.
